About Laura

I've spent my career asking one simple question…

What might we be missing?

For more than eighteen years I have worked with children and young people who were described as difficult, disengaged, defiant or hard to reach. Almost every time, the description told me more about the situation than the child.

Part way through that career I stepped away from working directly with children and spent time in policing, before returning to the work I care most about. It taught me to listen carefully, to stay calm when others could not, and to be wary of the first explanation offered to me. It also showed me what happens to children whose needs are noticed too late — and how often the earlier signs were there, in a classroom, years before.

Either side of that, I have worked closely with schools, agencies, families and other professionals, supporting children through anxiety, neurodivergence, trauma, loss, communication difficulties and everything in between. I have sat in the meetings where nobody knows what to try next, and I have watched what changes when one adult finally understands what a child is telling them.

Future Foundations grew out of that. I am not here to hand anyone a new programme or a fashionable framework. I am here to help the adults around a child think more clearly, respond more confidently and keep their expectations high while they do it.

I work honestly. If I think something is unlikely to help, I will say so. If a child's needs sit outside what I can offer, I will tell you that too. Trust matters more to me than being the answer to everything.

Behaviour is usually the last part of the story. I'm interested in the rest of it.

What you can expect from working with me

Curiosity before conclusions

I will always want to understand the child properly before recommending anything.

Straight talking

Clear language, honest views and no jargon dressed up as expertise.

Respect for your team

You know your setting and the children in it. My job is to add to that, not to talk over it.
